According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, motorcycles comprise a mere three percent of registered vehicles on American roads, yet account for at least 15 percent of all fatal road accidents. No matter how you look at it, these are troubling numbers.
Motorcycles can be great fun to ride, but woe to any biker who has the bad luck to collide with a car. The best way to protect yourself is to remain alert, follow the rules of the road, wear a helmet and always keep yourself and your bike covered with motorcycle insurance.
The US Department of Transportation expands on the above safety rules, adding a reminder for motorcyclists to share the road, be conspicuous and only ride when sober.
