Creating an Employee Benefits Program

While providing employees a fair paycheck is their main motivation for working, many people also seek to work for a business that offers comprehensive benefits. In fact, studies have proven that offering employee benefits is one of the best ways to retain a dedicated staff and attract new top talent. Are you ready to create a benefits program at your business? Start with these benefits that most people look for in a job. group of employees smiling at camera

  • Employer-sponsored insurance: Many individuals will not accept a job unless it offers healthcare. Providing health, dental and vision insurance not only helps your employees with their out-of-pocket costs, but it also shows that you care about their wellbeing.

  • Flexibility: When it comes down to it, a job is just a job. Individuals’ personal lives will always come first. As an employer, understanding that and allowing your employees some flexibility helps make everyone’s lives easier. Flexibility comes in many forms including the option to work from home or choose your own hours. So long as employees complete work in a timely manner, they have the freedom to visit a doctor or wait at home for a repairman without having to request time off.

  • Paid time off: Everyone needs breaks to prevent burnout. Offering paid time off for vacations and sick/personal time is a very attractive benefit that most people look for in a job. It’s standard to offer at least ten days of vacation during an employee’s first year, with additional days added as the employee accrues seniority.

  • Retirement savings: People are realizing how important it is to start saving for retirement early on, which makes a 401(k) program an attractive benefit as well. In addition to setting up these retirement plans, many businesses also offer matching programs to give employees an incentive to stick with the job so they can continue earning “free money.”

  • Other benefits: In addition to standard benefits that many businesses offer, you can set your company apart by offering more. Some ideas are free sodas and/or snacks, casual dress code, in-house childcare, allowing dogs at work, planning sponsored team activities/lunches and more.
